The Down Syndrome Centres provide full-time specialist clinical services to children with Down syndrome from birth to 18 years.

The centres provide life-enhancing therapy and support services to 350 children and their families.

We are recruiting a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SLTA) to join our team in Sandyford. This is a full-time permanent post on a 35-hour week, Monday – Friday.

The centre has a multi-disciplinary team of OTs, SLTs, Physiotherapy and Early Years educators.

The SLT Assistant will work under the direction of a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, supporting group therapy and executing therapy plans provided by SLTs at the centre.

This role also includes supervised or directed service-user contact as well as assisting in the day-to-day running of the SLT service.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in continuous professional development, including MDT meetings, in-service courses and mandatory training programmes.


  • Facilitate therapy programmes under direction and supervision
  • Co-facilitate or lead therapy groups under direction and supervision
  • Prepare and set up treatment areas for individual or group sessions
  • To observe the general performance, behaviour and ability of the children during therapeutic interventions, reporting observations to the SLT
  • On instruction of the SLT, document service user contacts/interventions in the relevant service-user file
  • Develop therapy resources and materials under direction
  • Administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, scanning, shredding, formatting forms/service user materials

Candidates must, on the last date for receipt of applications, possess:

  • QQI level 5 qualification in Health Service Skills, Speech and Language Therapy Assistant or relevant qualification in the field of health & social care.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a disability setting or with a paediatric population.

Salary will be in accordance with HSE scales and relevant experience, staring point €31,723 and includes generous leave entitlements.

The successful candidate will enjoy the support of a Multi-Disciplinary Team in a well-equipped centre.
